Sage, a member of the Lamiaceae family, is an aromatic and medicinal plant. It spreads in various Mediterranean countries from Spain to the Balkans. It is known that there are more than 900 sage species around the world. Turkey is among the countries where sage is most widespread and used commercially in the world. Sage oil is obtained from the leaves of this plant. In the 10th century, physicians in the Middle East believed that sage would be a remedy for conditions that caused death. Treatment methods using sage are sought for different types of diseases. Efforts are made to find treatments with sage for issues such as epilepsy, poisoning, intestinal problems and infections. Today, sage in tea form is used for medicinal purposes. Sage oil can be considered as a substance mostly used in the field of aromatherapy. The scent of the oil obtained from a flowering plant can be used on the body with its fresh and clean scent.
